Slaughterhouse
[In The Red Records]

Jon Brion. Brendan Benson. Jack White. These multi-instrumentalist musicians are known for their expertise and involvement in every aspect of their albums. Now we have Ty Segall, the Bay Area psych-punk rocker who is releasing three full-length albums this year (Slaughterhouse is the first album with his talented touring band). They’ve recorded a no-holds barred, blow-out-your-eardrums kick-ass album.

Segall and his bandmates Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart, and Emily Rose Epstein bring us the best in this latest wave of Nuggets-worthy garage rock. Fuzz, distortion, bombastic howling and growling hit you where you hurts in tracks like “The Tongue,” “Fuzz War,” and “Death.” Our favorite track is the more melodic but equally rocking “Tell Me What’s Inside Your Heart,” where we see the softer side of Segall and company. Heed our warning: you may end up with detached retinas upon repeated listening because you won’t be able to stop your head from banging.
