Two singer/songwriters open up for Zee Avi at her show in Oakland, CA.

Tre Burt started out the night with a set of folk songs on guitar. It was a good start for a night of different styles of music.

Joey Dosik was up next with a set of lounge/jazz music on keys. He keep the audience in a great mood for Zee’s set.

Zee Avi played a mix of pop/R&B/jazz with a bit of islander sway mixed in. Zee played guitar and ukulele with David Hurwitz accompanying her on guitar and later in the set on a sape; a guitar like instrument from Zee’s home, Borneo. Zee is quite the comedian joking around with the audience. She also sang to us in her native dialect, adding a bit world music to the night. Zee had the audience sing the “boom she clack clack” refrain to the song “Concrete Wall” off of her Ghostbird CD. Boom she clack clack… what? Go on look up Zee Avi, “Concrete Wall” and have a listen. Warning it may get stuck in your head. Go ahead we’ll wait… Suffice to say everyone was all smiles at the end of the night.
