PICTURE THIS: Real Estate, Free Time + Thee Rain Cats @ Observatory, Santa Ana 9/26/13

From the suburbs of the East Coast, Real Estate brought their breezy pop tunes to the suburbs of the West Coast last Thursday at The Observatory. To our surprise and pleasure, local psychedelic pop kids Thee Rain Cats were added to the bill at the last minute. While the group played a solid set, the crowd seemed to have a tough time getting into the spirit.

Next, and also from the East Coast, Free Time continued with the jangly, chilled out jams. Frontman Dion Nania’s mellow vocals would perfectly fit any rainy day soundtrack. Characteristically of Orange County, many concertgoers were becoming restless by the end of Free Time’s set.

The crowd calmed down as Real Estate finally took the stage and started to settle into the groove. Although it hasn’t quite cooled down to autumnal temperatures in Southern California, Real Estate delivered some tunes that temporarily transported us to dreamy sweater weather days.
