What a treat it was to witness Dan Auerbach’s latest sonic endeavor, The Arcs, at Pomona’s Glasshouse. Without having to brave dusty sandstorms or blazing desert heat, we were enveloped in The Arc’s gritty yet soulful grooves on a Friday night.

Openers The Heavy have snuck some earworms into our heads through a car commercial (“How You Like Me Now?”) and a spot in Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight trailer (an instrumental version of “Same Ol”), but actually seeing them is a whole other experience. Frontman Kelvin Swaby charismatically revved up the crowd. Even the girl in the crowd who was on the receiving end of an accidental microphone slip couldn’t be mad after their warming performance.
