José James is currently touring in support of his latest release No Beginning No End. He stopped into the New Parish in Oakland with his band, Takuya Kwroda on trumpet, Richard Spaven on drums, Kris Bowers on keyboards,

and Solomon Dorsey on bass. José James filled the New Parish with jazz music to the delight of the audience. José’s set included the songs “Trouble And Sword” and “Gun” (“Sword + Gun” features Hindi Zahra on the album.) He included a bit of vocal riffing at the beginning of the set in the Bill Withers song “Grandma’s Hands.” At the end of the night he went into a vocal riff that just blew everyone away. José’s singing combined with an excellent band makes for a show not to be missed.
