Australia’s Cannanes have spent almost 30 years traversing the wilds of the indie sphere, brought to light in the eighties by Calvin Johnson’s K Records, and have gone on to work their niche. On their first release in years, they are once again collaborating with Stephen Hermann, (Explosion Robinson). They’ve loosed an EP, Small Batch, and its centerpiece is the woozily addictive dream popper “Crawler.” By the time the EP concludes with the dubfest “Zone,” you’ve lifted the lid on a box of wonders. Get hooked, and there’s a whole new world to fall into. As a bonus, the band will perform in NYC in June as part of Chickfactor 21.
