Originally from South Africa and now creative resident of Los Angeles, the vastly talented singer-songwriter Daena Jay has spent the last few years honing her craft ahead of the release of her latest EP masterpiece earlier this year.

Where her first EP, When The Bough Breaks, was a gentler more melancholy and haunting introspective record, Daena Jay’s latest Subdivision EP has a far more visceral, bold and aggressive musicality that suits the rich and tempered vocal of the singer and a sense of ethereal otherness makes her music fit in along with the likes of Bat For Lashes. Songs like “I Will” taps into a primal beat that sounds almost tribal despite the modern recognisable structure of indie pop and the electronic influences that are particularly strong in the quick flowing trippy “What You Always Wanted”. Some absolutely stunning rhythms and beats truly make this artist stand out.
