OUTSIDE LANDS 2018 – Sunday
Janelle Monae
We had great weather all weekend until Sunday. The fog rolled in to cover the sun, reverting back to classic San Francisco weather. It wouldn’t be a true Outside Lands experience without an appearance from Karl the Fog.
This year, Outside Lands added Grasslands to focus on “the celebration, education, and integration of cannabis products into daily life.” Located on the south side of the polo fields, this curated experience was quite enlightening. With the legalization of recreational cannabis, vendors were there to sell products, but also to explore and integrate and enhance the festival experience with cannabis related experiences.
Hot Flash Heat Wave brought back some of the heat with early afternoon crowd surfing, but the one set I knew I couldn’t miss was Janelle Monáe.
She rocked the stage without hesitation. You wouldn’t even know she threw up from food poisoning right before she took stage. (Yep, she casually dropped that little info-nugget while performing.)
By the time Janet Jackson took the stage at the end of the night to close the festival, I was exhausted, which could only mean one thing – another successful Outside Lands experience in the books. Can’t wait to do it all again next year…but first, sleep.
