TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 7/11/19 Edition

July 11. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

Kicking off this edition of Tracks of the Week, it’s a double-barreled Bay Area blast! “There Were Only Shadows” from SF’s seablite is off of the band’s debut LP, Grass Stains and Novocaine, out last month on Flagstaff, AZ based Emotional Response Records. Oakland’s Boy Scouts are up next with “Get Well Soon”, from their upcoming Anti Records release, Free Company. Don’t miss them on the road with Jay Som this fall, including the Echoplex, LA on 9/13 and the Fillmore, SF on 9/14.

Keeping tabs on our local alumni, current LA resident Nate Mercerau is making moves with “Joy Techniques ft. Terrace Martin”, the title cut of his latest, out tomorrow (7/12) on How So Records. Back in the Bay Area, don’t miss his upcoming release show 7.20 at Amnesia.

Necking’s debut LP Cut Your Teeth came out last week on Mint Records. Check out our current Nest favorite “Big Mouth”. If you catch the Vancouver, BC quartet on their home turf, the Red Gate Arts Society will host their album release show on 7/12, otherwise they will be passing through California, touching down at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach with Peach Kelli Pop on 7/18, Burger Records in Fullerton on 7/19, Oakland Secret 7/20, then back down to LA on 7/22 as a guest at the Ian Sweet residency at The Echo.

Closing things out this time is Hiss Golden Messenger, with MC Taylor’s latest keeping the focus on his roots and paying tribute to May’s North Carolina teacher walkouts. “I Need A Teacher” is from the forthcoming Merge Records LP, Terms Of Surrender, out 9/20.
