Sezio taps The Dodos, Avi Buffalo, Dominant Legs, and more for “Four Day Weekend”
Sezio brings back its four-day mini festie, “Four Day Weekend”, expanding the square footage and showcasing solid California talent at Sushi Art (San Diego’s East Village)
If Liverpool and San Diego had a baby they would name it Cuckoo Chaos. Winner of 2010 San Diego Music Award for Best Alternative band, Cuckoo Chaos, has been making music and entertaining audiences since 2008. The five-piece band fronted by Scott Wheeler draws influences from E.L.O., Blur, and Nina Simone as their sound is a charming pop that… dare we say… channels The Beatles? Their velvety harmonies and intricate acoustic strings are as inviting as the warm sands from which they hail.
Originally called Dodo Bird, the band out of San Francisco, formed in 2005 when solo singer-songwriter, Meric Long met drummer, Logan Kroeber. Known for their unique instrumentation, these guys promise to put on a super cool live show. Long will be on guitar, while Kroeber is on drums, which he often plays mostly on the rims with a tambourine taped to his shoe. Keaton Snyder, who joins them for live performances, will be on vibraphone.

Singer-songwriter, Jackson Nathan Milgaten, is the pioneering artist behind San Diego’s own The Vision Of A Dying World (Single Screen Records) an indie-folk band that originally formed in Las Vegas, NV in 2002. His songs combine echoe-y vocals with acoustic guitars perched on a gritty foundation. Although the supporting band members have come and gone Milgaten has been the constant writing songs that are not only thought provoking as in “Mantra/What Is and What Is Not” but also posses a catchy yet edgy flavor as in “on the Nature”.
Also a member of San Francisco band Girls, Ryan Lynch began Dominant Legs as a solo project after getting laid off from his office job. As a soloist Lynch sang, played guitar, synthesizer and drum machines. After returning from studying architecture in NY, Hannah Hunt joined Lynch adding her vocals and keyboard skills to the mix. The project between the two has given Lynch the freedom to experiment with his vocal style, which has a bit of a Tracy Chapman vibe to it. Dominent Legs’ album Young At Love And Life (Lefse Records) was just released in September.

Singer-songwriter, Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg, now just barely 20 years old, began recording albums in the tenth grade while playing coffee shops and Long Beach house parties. Somehow he made it through high school while committing to years of 12-hour days on his guitar and even dabbled in some blues early on. Fast forward to April, 2010. Avi and his band debuted their self-titled album on Sub Pop Records which has garnered a lot of attention from indie-music fans across the nation.
