HEAR THIS: The Mowgli’s

January 25. 2011 | By Christopher Allen

A mood doesn’t exist that doesn’t fit the blues/folk fusion of my new find, The Mowgli’s. The blues progression hits your soul while the raw harmonic vocals from every member in the 7-person band hit your grey matter right in the feel-good region. Local to LA, The Mowgli’s (I’m not sure who Mowgli is, but it has a great band) claim to be influenced by all the stuff that makes music great: classic rock, blues, folk, and jazz to name a few.

Though currently working on their first album, their BandCamp is full of demos and live tracks for tasting. My faves include “San Fransisco,” which showcases an acoustic/harmonic/rock ‘n’ roll mashup that’s a driving anthem for feel-good days, and “See I’m Alive” is the perfect soundtrack for dissolving a bad day. A self-proclaimed Southern California band with a Southern California soul, The Mowgli’s fit into any good indie tune library.
