Notable Fall Record Events: LA + Bay Area

November 09. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

Whether you make the case of getting a leg up on your holiday shopping, or taking a little time out of the crazy season to be nice to yourself, it’s worth making a note of impending opportunities both north and south. Coming up in Los Angeles on November 15th/16th at the The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, it’s The Get Together, a Record Label Market & Music Fair, featuring artists including: Joe Kay and William Basinski, and closing with a special treat: Lee Fields backed by the El Micheals Affair. Presented by Spaceland, MOCA, Other Music, and KCRW, The Get Together also features a host of DJ’s holding it down, and a plethora of labels to choose from. It promises to be a one of a kind experience, free to MOCA members, with tickets available here.

Moving up north the following weekend, we mark five years since the very first BARF, the Bay Area Record Fest. Over time, it’s migrated from being a street fair off of 17th St in SF, to the Swedish American Music Hall, and has now found a home at 7th West in Oakland. Presented by Noise Pop and Do The Bay, BARF runs from noon to 7pm on November 23rd with a stellar lineup including Sonny & the Sunsets and Tia Nomore, a host of DJ’s, and a pop-up shop featuring over a dozen labels, plus food, arcade games, and drink specials courtesy of Deep Eddy Vodka, Oskar Blues Brewery, & Wild Basin Boozy Sparkling Water. The event is free, but requires an RSVP.
