NEWS FLASH: Lala to Close May 31st, Points Users to iTunes

April 30. 2010 | By Jason Jurgens

An email hit my inbox this morning that makes me kind of sad. It appears Lala is closing its doors and wallets and shuttering users over to iTunes. I knew this was coming. I mean Apple gobbled up the online music late 2009. This may mean iTunes will take to the clouds, which is basically what Lala offered. But there was something fun(?) and cute (?) about using Lala that I will miss. R.I.P. Tell us how you feel?

“The Lala service will be shut down on May 31st.

In appreciation of your support over the last five years, you will receive a credit in the amount of your Lala web song purchases for use on Apple’s iTunes Store. If you purchased and downloaded mp3 songs from Lala, those songs will continue to play as part of your local music library.

Remaining wallet balances and unredeemed gift cards will be converted to iTunes Store credit (or can be refunded upon request). Gift cards can be redeemed on Lala until May 31st.”
