Long Live Local Music!

September 15. 2010 | By Mari

The Recording Academy SF Chapter, aka the people who do the Grammys, have launched a campaign to support local music. And the scene needs all the help it can get; in the past few years, there has been a lot of financial badness facing the Bay Area entertainment industry along with other issues that San Francisco Magazine referred to as ”San Francisco’s war on fun.” The idea of venues closing and SF possibly losing its foothold in the music landscape is really disheartening. And so, the Recording Academy SF Chapter, in partnership with San Francisco State University, has commissioned an entertainment industry economic impact study.

I know numbers and reality aren’t a typical, fun filled Owl post, but yo, it’s rad that some real work is being put in for solutions. The findings of the study will be presented at a San Francisco Supervisor Candidates Forum on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, 6 – 9 p.m., at Yoshi’s San Francisco (1330 Fillmore Street).
