FROM THE NEWS NEST: Sublime reunites for 4-20 and more.
Sublime has been mainly broken up since the overdose of lead singer Brad Nowell in 1996, and fans have had to mainly do without the fantastic SoCal band. The surviving members took the stage as Sublime With Rome (pictured) last night in L.A. with 21-year-old Rome Ramirez, and according to Spin Magazine, the house was rocking. Ramirez has big shoes to fill, but apparently is keeping the pace.
Gang Starr MC Guru passed away Monday at the age of 47. According to a statement from his family, Guru suffered from multiple myeloma for more than a year, and had been in a coma since mid-February. A lot of artists and fans have felt his loss, and have paid tribute in the New York Times, as well as on Twitter. The Roots’ ?uestlove wrote, “gangstarr was cream of wheat with salt AND brown sugar. gangstarr was a strong shot (primo) and a chaser (guru). gangstarr was moms tomato sauce and sugar. one of the great clashing examples of great hip hop: hard drums/smooth loops/hard words/smooth delivery.”
