FROM THE NEWS NEST: New music from PJ Harvey and more.

November 23. 2010 | By Bernadette

Blast from the ’90s alt-rock past: British siren PJ Harvey (pictured) will be dropping her newest album Let England Shake in February 2011. Harvey describes her first album since 2007′s gothic-sounding White Chalk to NME: “For some reason, we were all in a very good place, with a lot of energy, intensity, and vitality in us at the time. It was a really enjoyable experience, and I think the record’s ended up full of energy and quite and uplifting experience because of it.”

Famed producer Quincy Jones talked some major smack about Kanye West recently to Rolling Stone. Jones shook off any comparison the magazine was attempting to make between the two artists, saying that while West was only a rapper, Jones had spent many years honing his skills as a trumpeter.

For your daily dose of good tunes, check out the studio version of John Legend and the Roots‘ cover of Arcade Fire‘s “Wake Up!”, a track that didn’t make the cut for their album of covers that dropped this September. For lack of a better way to describe it, these guys have turned the dial way up on the soul of this track. We love all of the layers of sound.
