FROM THE NEWS NEST: Girls tune in gay porn and more.
We’re not going to admit that we did extensive research on this or anything, but San Francisco band Girls (pictured) have their song “Solitude” featured in a gay porn. Also featuring music from the Chromatics, I Want Your Love, a documentary-styled short by filmmaker Travis Mathews, is pretty hardcore. In a literal sense. But as Pitchfork mentions, this could be considered a logical step for a band who featured a penis “microphone” in their video for “Lust for Life.”
For the 12th year, KCRW and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association are teaming up to bring us KCRW’s World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. This summer, over the course of six Sundays beginning June 20, the World Festival will bring artists from all over the world and, boy, do they have some amazing acts: Goldfrapp, the Swell Season, Yeasayer, the Chemical Brothers and more.
M.I.A.‘s single “XXXO”, her first from her upcoming (and untitled) album, has hit the airwaves. It’s a pretty delicious track that will for sure be spinning in dance clubs all over the world, but far from the hotness that is “Paper Planes.” She seems to be singing more than we’ve ever heard, not necessarily a bad thing.
