The late Elliott Smith (pictured) is getting the greatest hits treatment: Kill Rock Stars has announced that they are releasing An Introduction to… Elliott Smith Nov. 2. It’s just too bad some of Smith’s best tunes are tied up due to rumored contractual issues and therefore absent. But it is a pretty decent starter album.
Here’s one for the indie kids! Arcade Fire‘s latest album Suburbs debuts at No. 1 this week, selling 156,000 copies. The closest the Montreal band ever came before was with 2007′s Neon Bible when they sold 92,000 copies in the first week. That’s quite a jump. Beautiful.
Vans Warped Tour staple Sum 41 has canceled their tour appearance this year, due to lead singer Deryck Whibley still recovering after sustaining injuries from an attack in Japan. The band released the following statement: “Knowing that they are unable to deliver their signature high energy show, Sum 41 made the tough decision that a break is needed while Deryck begins rehabilitation for the slipped disc.”
