FROM THE NEWS NEST: Black Lips member apologizes for homophobic comments and more.

You kids may remember the heated words and thrown punches that went down last year between Jared Swilley of Black Lips (pictured) and Wavves frontman Nathan Williams. Swilley had a subsequent interview with Buddyhead about the confrontation, and proceeded to use the word “faggot” to describe Williams. Well, Swilley has recently gotten around to apologizing for the homophobic comments. Swilley tells the website The New Gay that the word is “something that comes to you naturally as such a part of our nomenclature, just when you’re pissed at someone or you don’t like somebody.”

Our favorite man in purple Prince is apparently behind on his taxes. The man apparently owes $227,000 in taxes for PRN Music Corp. to his home state of Minnesota. If this is all true, maybe Prince will go on tour to work off the debt! We all win.

One of rock ‘n’ roll’s most influential photographers Jim Marshall passed away in his sleep Tuesday. Marshall, who was the only photographer who had full access to the Beatles‘ last concert at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park in ’66, captured such iconic images as Johnny Cash flipping the bird at San Quentin. Some of his photos of Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and many other amazing musicians of that era have become iconic images.
