FROM THE NEWS NEST: Runaways talk new material and more
Two of the baddest bitches in rock ‘n’ roll history are back: Joan Jett and Cherie Currie are talking about working again, for the first time since 1977. They hit the studios recently, recording for the new Runaways biopic, starring Twilight-famous Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. Apparently time heals whatever caused them to part ways, because Jett and Currie discovered they still liked each other! We can’t say that about some of our high school pals…
The Young Veins (pictured) performed their first show in L.A. this weekend, rocking The Echo. We expected a lot of these kids, since they are half of Panic! At the Disco’s former line-up. According to a review from Spin Magazine, Ryan Ross and Jon Walker and co. played a whole lot of “short, upbeat rock ‘n’ roll tunes” to a packed crowd, including Jenny Lewis and Edward Sharpe. We’re so gleefully anticipating the Young Veins’ June release.
Speaking of Glee — we know, we stretched that one — apparently Bryan Adams and Coldplay turned down our favorite high school kids. Meanwhile, as we all know Madonna said yes, and when producers asked, so did Lady Gaga. We think those two know a little bit more than the boys about staying relevant. Ah April, you’re too far away!
Some of our fave artists are doing some really awesome things for an auction organized by Crafts for a Cause benefiting Haiti relief. Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend, the Strokes, Cat Power and many more are donating figurines (in Daft Punk’s case), paintings, guitars and other such items for the cause.
