PICTURE THIS: Aesop Rock & Kimya Dawson @ the Independent 6/14

June 16. 2011 | By Brendan McWeeney

Kimya Dawson’s stream of consciousness, folky flow was complimented by Aesop Rock’s lyrical genius. An unconventional pairing that actually worked perfectly. Her wandering lyrics held the audiences’ attention and her openness often gave me goosebumps. Her song “Walk Like Thunder,” an emotional song about friends that she’s lost, brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience.

Then Aesop came out with Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz and slayed the crowd with classic tracks like “Citronella,” “None Shall Pass,” “Catacomb Kids” and more. Great show.
