DON’T MISS THIS: Best Bets For MPMF Thursday

If you’re heading out for MidPoint on Thursday (9/23), here are the bands that The Owl Mag, and festival gal, Tania, recommend you get yourself to ASAP.

Slothpop

Below Zero at 8PM

Take one part dreamy tunes, and another part the 70s-influenced mellow rock, and you’d end up with Slothpop. The melodic and calmingly-attractive tunes are a great start to your Midpoint night. The venue, Below Zero, is also a treat in itself, located in the heart of OTR. You’ll want to make sure you know how to get here for the Sundresses on Saturday.

Wussy and Best Coast
Grammers at 7:30PM/9:30PM

If Slothpop doesn’t get you excited for the night, Cincinnati favorite, Wussy, on the festivals largest stage are likely to get you going. The band has been a fan-favorite with MPMF in the past, frequently playing MPMF Indie Summer stage. While it won’t be as hot as the dead of summer for their show on Thursday, expect everything you could want out of this rising rock band.

Closing out the stage at Grammer’s on Thursday is Best Coast, the band that many are looking forward to as the spotlight of MPMF 2010. This duo brings it old school with lay-in-the-sun jams, and a certain ting of California sun. Come for Wussy, but stay for Best Coast!

You, You’re Awesome and Holy F*ck

Cincinnati Club at 10:30PM/11:30PM

Take a walk down a few blocks from Grammers (or take the Metro Shuttle  – free to three-day passholders) for another Cincinnati local, You, You’re Awesome. If you always wanted a drum machine or a synth growing up, they’re definitely the band for you. Prepare to stay on your feet and dance until the sun comes up.

At 11:30PM, one of the crowning jewels of the showcase takes the stage. Holy F*ck is from the big country above us, and are coming off the success of their latest album, Latin. Talk about a dance party. The band has been touring for the past year straight, and are finally en route to Cincinnati. Be sure not to miss!
