Bloc Party, Coldplay & others throw in for Haiti
The devastating events of this week’s earthquake in Haiti has brought a number of bands together calling for aid for the country.
Blink-182 has released limited edition t-shirts with the Blink bunny holding a Haitian flag. Proceeds go to the Red Cross. Wyclef Jean, who is Haitian-American, has already raised $750,000 in relief funds from promoting Yele.com on his Twitter. Other artists like Wilco and Yoko Ono have also helped through Twitter.
Bloc Party and Coldplay have posted statements on their websites asking their fans to donate money to Haiti. Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke wrote: “Bloc Party supports Oxfam American because they save lives, help people overcome poverty, and fight for social justice. They help our fans become activists, by showing them how take action to change things for the better.”
