Bay Area Independent Venue Update

May 05. 2021 | By Wayne Jessup

The appearance of date announcements is spurring excitement for the return of live music, and signs of life continue to bud in the Bay Area venue scene, most recently with the announcement of the resurrection of Oakland’s beloved Starline Social Club. September is the planned reopening date, and the club will emerge from the crisis as a worker-owned collective. In the interim, the team will be working hard on renovating the historic 130 year-old building. Expect schedule announcements in the not too distant future.

Albany’s Ivy Room are back in the game with a lineup of outdoor shows. The Tiny Towns concert series commences with an already sold out appearance from John Doe with special guest Jason White on 5/21. Head to the Ivy Room website for more info and show safety guidelines, and sign up for their news blast to be updated on future shows.

#SubscribeToLive is a newly created fund to benefit independent venues in the Bay Area… created by the Independent Venue Preservation Initiative, the goal is to channel community micro-donations into a fund that will help pay venues essential operational expenses dating back to February 2020. Between various grant and loan options, it seeks to provide an important bedrock that won’t dry up or go away.

To donate, head here: www.subscribetolive.org

To register a venue for funding consideration, go to: independentvenuepreservationinitiative.org

Currently live in San Francisco, it will soon roll out across the greater Bay Area.
