As the band took the stage, the cheers and playful jeers from the adoring and wonderfully raucous crowd made it clear that this was going to be a fun and memorable show. Stating that the band never practices, Hunx and His Punx tore through a tight set of mostly upbeat, danceable tunes on the first stop of a 48 city tour. Credit has to be given to the onstage persona of Hunx; the set could have easily become monotonous if not for him. He is equal parts Frank-N-Furter and Pee Wee Herman with a sprinkling of early ’70s David Bowie from the Ziggy Stardust era. He sings, he prances, he makes jokes, and he genuinely seems to be having a blast. That kind of enthusiasm is infectious and the drunken, sweaty, and fabulously trashy crowd at the Echoplex ate it up. The highlights included “You Don’t Like Rock ‘N Roll” and “Lovers Lane” — with a random make out session between two girls that climbed on stage as a bonus. The band will be on tour through May in the US and Europe.
