HEAR THIS: THE LINDA LINDAS

While steadily building attention in the LA area, including landing a soundtrack slot and an appearance in the feature film Moxie, a clip of The Linda Lindas storming through “Racist, Sexist Boy” at a Los Angeles Public Library (Cypress Branch) performance became a viral sensation, causing a seismic shift in the band’s fortunes, culminating in a signing to Epitaph Records.

From their genesis as a backup band to Kristin Kontrol (Dum Dum Girls) at an LA Rock Camp, the quartet has toiled steadily, racking up gigs, and their modest but potent discography thus far includes their debut EP from December and two singles, “Claudia Kishi” (for the Netflix documentary Claudia Kishi Club) and the rousing “Vote”, in addition to the aforementioned soundtrack cuts and latest blast.

While the performance firmly establishes the ladies’ bonafides, it also underlines the importance of public libraries as integral service institutions as we teeter on the verge of reopening the state. If we can capture The Linda Lindas energy and put it to work, libraries will be safe.

With an opening slot on one of the Bikini Kill dates at the LA Palladium under their belts, it certainly won’t be the last high profile date The Linda Lindas have to look forward to.
