Brooklyn’s Northside Festival wrapped up on Sunday with headlining shows by Elvis Perkins in Dearland, Les Savy Fav and Islands, plus another delectable smorgasboard of local bands.
MiniBoone is one of this year’s “8 NYC Bands You Need to Hear” chosen by Northside organizer The L Magazine. More than that, they’re a band you need to see. Their 10pm set on Sunday was their last of several over four days, but that didn’t stop them from performing with explosive energy as they switched instruments and tore into their memorable anthems with abandon. A highlight of their set was “Devil In Your Eyes,” which has a feel-good sing-along chorus–even though it includes the lyric “everybody has to die.” Watch the video:
Brooklyn trio Keepaway has been earning a lot of attention for their songs that layer complex, primal rhythms with bright synthesizers and warm vocals. They ended the festival on a high note at Brooklyn Bowl. Download the irresistible “Yellow Wings” from their EP Baby Style and check out their performance of the song at the show:
