PICTURE THIS: Odd Future @ The Regency Ballroom, SF 7/22/11

July 25. 2011 | By Brendan McWeeney

Odd Future‘s show at The Regency Ballroom had a punk-like energy and focused heavily on stage diving, middle fingers, and of course their charismatic leader Tyler, the Creator. Even with a broken leg and sitting on a stool for the beginning of the show, Tyler was able to whip the sold-out crowd into a frenzy. As Left Brain, Hodgy Beats, and other OFWGKTA members launched over the photo pit into the audience, crowd surfers crashed like a wave full of stoned kids onto the floor in front of the stage. It was bedlam on the floor, and beautifully controlled chaos on stage.

As they grow, I hope to see Odd Future focus a little more on stage production and drop the rapping over pre-recorded vocal track thing. But until then, “Free Earl” and “Fuck Steve Harvey!”
