LIVE REVIEW: Dr. Dog at Great American Music Hall 4/25
For a period of a few months last year, with a bunch of new music on my playlist, every time I heard a song I really liked, it was Dr. Dog. Although, the Philadelphia-based band has been around for ten years, long enough to have had multiple of member line-ups, it was the first I had heard of them. And last night, was my first time seeing them live. It was not what I expected. From the first moment walking in to the GAMH, I thought, “Dang, that’s a lot of big, big boxes on stage.” Which translated into a big, big sound. Gone was the dusty shamble on the tunes I had so liked, replaced by a high energy, high decibel experience complete with a light show and searing guitar riffs. After I recovered from my shock, I spent the rest of the set swept up in the energy and could relate to the guy left of me who was repeatedly shouting, “F*ck Monday!”
Dr. Dog is currently touring on their new release Shame, Shame. After dazzling Europe, they’ll be back this summer for the High Sierra Music Festival
