Live Review: Band of Horses at Fox Theater

April 17. 2009 | By Mari

The Fox Theater has officially made Oakland big time, at least in the music goers scene. A sold out Band of Horses show on April 17th was an awesome motivator to get San Franciscans emigrating for an evening.

The crowd ate it up: mustering a ‘pit’ for “Wicked Gil,” giggling to Bridwell’s cute perfunctory banter, and flannel everywhere. From opener “The Great Salt Lake” to the encore with “Part One,” every song was just so good. To hear new songs and immediately be hooked by them, it was exciting. Folk made romantically, with a southern backbone, and modern indie appeal, the modest Band of Horses has outlasted other breakout bands since 2004 while continuing to shine in their ostensible simplicity.
