HEAR THIS: ESKIMEAUX

Eskimeaux

Gabrielle Smith’s Eskimeaux project has been an ongoing concern for years, and as part of Brooklyn’s Epoch collective, she’s been aiding and abetting numerous bands. With new LP It’s OK, (on Double Double Whammy), Smith marks a transition to a brighter shade of Indie Art Pop. Like Annie Clark with St. Vincent, there’s a lot going on underneath the surface, and to dismiss them as simply ‘confessionals’ would be way underselling the proceedings. Granted, while “Alone At The Party” stands to be the lonely bedroom anthem, it’s “Broken Necks” line “Nothing in this world is holier than friendship” that leaves a lasting impact. Currently trekking down the west coast on a packed bill tour with Elvis Depressedly and Mitski, don’t miss your chance to catch the Eskimeaux experience live in San Francisco on Tuesday, 6/30 at Bottom Of The Hill and Thursday, 7/2 at the Echo in Los Angeles.
