“Metal Moon” may have taken five years for Dirty Ghost’s Allyson Baker to complete, but it was absolutely worth the wait. The opening words of the record, “How about we do a decapitation tonight… starring you,” seem to be a bow to Baker’s punk rock roots, but there’s no question that her musical direction has changed. Also, after a year of searching for a vocalist, Baker had no choice but to take on the job herself – but you’d never know as you listen to her sing with major attitude and lots of emotion.

“Shout It In” is a catchy, fun song I immediately wanted to sing along with, and the incredible guitar solo in “19 in ‘71” made me want to tune up my air guitar. The addition of programming from Aesop Rock makes me think of the synth-heavy music of the ’80s and ’90s – in a good way. “Metal Moon” is very much an electronic and rhythmically-driven force to be reckoned with.
