SoCal’s Best Coast, fronted by Bethany Cosentino, played a warm up headlining gig in one of the most unusual setting and scenes I’ve experienced—the California Academy of Sciences.

Upon entry concert-goers were treated to some wild house music and were invited to peruse the exhibits. I checked out the rainforest and the aquarium. The place was packed with multiple spots to get drinks. It was a party in the most stimulating venue imaginable.

Best Coast promptly took the stage at 9PM, bathed in a cool blue light. Their warm-sunny, punk-beach pop, mixed with a cool image was a striking juxtaposition to the backdrop and it felt like a metaphor for our San Francisco summer. Highlights of the set were “Over the Ocean,” “Our Deal” (which has one of the most fun video’s in a long time with a nod to “Beat It” and West Side Story—well done director Drew Barrymore) and “When I’m with You”.
