PICTURE THIS: Chet Faker @ Independent, SF 9/4/13

It all starts innocently enough. An invite to see a band called Chet Faker at the Independent in San Francisco. On their first trip into the City by the Bay. A band you haven’t seen live. You’re not quite sure what to expect. Then the rhythm starts and your attention is drawn to the stage. Then the voice, this smooth R&B voice, starts in. The involuntary head bobbing ensues. Soon followed by your body weaving to the music.

All hope is lost when they start into their version of “No Diggity” by Blackstreet or maybe it was “I’m Into You” that sets their music deep into you. You think to yourself “oh god not again,” but still you don’t fight it because it feels too good. You hope this won’t be like the last one.

One EP and they disappear. Leaving you wondering what could have been. At the end of it their is the little spark of hope maybe this won’t turn in to another one night stand. Way down deep inside you know you love it. Whether it’s a wham bam thank you band or a long slow burn that sparks to life whenever they pass near you. Here’s to Chet Faker, a relationship that’s meant to last.
