HEAR THIS: SUDAN ARCHIVES

November 05. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

Sudan Archives steps forward for her debut LP Athena, out 11/1 on Stones Throw. The self-taught violinist has sharpened up her writing & producing skills over a pair of EP’s, breaking through on the second, 2018’s Sink. A magnetic cameo on the track “Gold” from Dexter Story’s Bahia earlier this year whet the appetite for her full-length, and it’s finally here, bursting with ideas and grooves, from the questing “Confession” to the forthright “Glorious” to the luminous “Iceland Moss”, it’s a trove of treasures.

Tonight in Los Angeles, Sudan Archives will take over the Moroccan Lounge for her sold-out release show, before heading overseas for European dates. Bay Area folks have patience, she’ll be back on the West Coast in February for Noise Pop at the Swedish American Music Hall on 2/24, in addition to shows in Seattle, Portland, and San Diego.
