Rancid hits the road

See, there’s this band called Rancid, and they’ve developed quite the fan base over the years with their one-two punch of reggae-infused punk. And despite this fan following, the band has not played a live show since 2006, nor have they released any new Rancid music since 2003′s Indestructible.

And you thought this story had a sad ending? Nope, not this time. It’s been announced that the Berkeley-native band has scheduled a shiny new summer tour that’s chock-full of shows. And that’s not all – this tour is meant to support Rancid’s highly-anticipated new album that’s nearly complete, and will mark their seventh album overall. Set for release later this year, the album was penned along with Epitaph president Brett Gurewitz as producer and Joe Barresi (Tool, Bad Religion) as mixer.

Two years without a live show and five years without a new album; if that doesn’t spell anticipation, then I don’t know what does. Check the band’s tour dates here, and stay tuned for more new album details as they emerge:
