OUT ON A LIMB: GLEE Runs Out of Ideas, Starts Ripping Off Artists

December 08. 2011 | By Dustin Shey

It seems that even if you’re a hit TV show with millions of revenue coming in through advertisers, top talent, and a number 4 spot on Tuesdays on the boob tube, you still run the risk of running out of new ideas. On November 29th, Glee ran that risk and ripped off an artist who legally covered another artist, and Fox isn’t saying a word.

The artist in question is actually a personal friend of mine, Greg Laswell. Years ago he started covering Cyndi Lauper‘s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by turning the upbeat ’80s jam into a ballad, a bold move that has the listener thinking “I know this song, but I don’t” until he hits the chorus.

Go ahead and listen to the two versions below and you’ll see, Glee may have ran its course with new ideas.
