TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 5/30/19 Edition

May 30. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

This week’s edition kicks off with Boston’s Halfsour, hijacking our brain with “Paper Window”, from their brand new LP Sticky, out now on Fire Talk/Disposable America. Checking in on LA, new Drab Majesty cut “Long Division” has our complete and undivided attention. Modern Mirror is out 7/12 on Dais Records, and just announced: 8/30 at Great American Music Hall (SF). Girl Friday, freshly signed to Hardly Art, has a new EP on the way.  Fashion Conman comes out 6.28, with “Decoration/Currency” being our track of choice. Don’t miss them opening up for The Beths this summer.

Pile is back with the incandescent single “Hair”, and a new LP Green and Gray, out now on Exploding In Sound. And since it is Pile we’re talking about… of course they’re on tour. Some of their midwest dates will feature support from the above-mentioned Halfsour, while West Coast dates will be opened by State Champion, including 6/11 at the Chapel (SF) and 6/13 at the Bootleg Theater (LA).

Final track we’ve been captivated by lately is “Rolled In Glass”, from Vancouver, BC’s Blessed. Here’s another band that’s no stranger to the road, and with debut LP Salt, (engineered by The Besnard Lakes Jace Lasek), unleashed in April, they’ll be bringing the noise to The Smell (LA) on 6/5, Alex’s Bar in Long Beach on 6/6, and Oakland Secret on 6/7.
