PICTURE THIS: Laura Veirs @ The Chapel, SF 9/30/13

There you are happily listening to Laura Veirs at The Chapel in San Francisco. Then a phrase catches your attention and you think, wait what did she just sing? Did she just sing “she is blown out the window.” You really focus in on her singing. You figure out what the song “Sakadako Folding Cranes” is about and you get a little ashamed for not listening closer. Because her words are interesting. Some of her songs are about important things like war. Some are about not so important stuff like seeing the sun after a lot of cloudy days (she is from Portland). You vow to do better. Then the next song starts. The melody sweeps you away and you realize she did it again. Veirs is very sneaky that way. You just give in and let her do it over and over. We recommend leveling up before attempting to listen to her lyrics and melody at the same time. Highly recommended and quite enjoyable advanced training is available in her latest album Warp And Weft or any of her earlier albums. Unfortunately, even expert level listeners are still subject to her sneaky ways.
