Though the Treasure Island Music Festival is still a few weeks away, the California Academy of Sciences is hosting a little Treasure Island pre-party performance with Jens Lekman on 9/29/11 as part of its NightLife event series. It has been nearly four years since the release of Lekman’s critically acclaimed 2007 album Night Falls Over Kortedala. The wait is now over. An Argument With Myself, Lekman’s five-track EP was released on 9/20/11 on Secretly Canadian. We’re pretty jazzed to hear some of his new material at the NightLife pre-party. Take a first listen below and write us a little note telling us your first impressions of Jens Lekman’s new EP. Doing so could win you a pair of tickets to the show. Check out the other NightLife events happening that evening also. Contest ends 9/27/11.

I just listened to the title track, and I immediately can't wait to dance to it, it's so bouncy and fun. The lyrics are hilarious, very Postcard to Nina which has always been my favorite. And he uses a lot of great vocal layering techniques to keep it fresh throughout, as always. Just makes me smile, he's still got it for sure!
i always love old jens. i didn't think he'd top his penchant for humor with this new EP, but he's funnier than ever before, while still managing to stay poignant. the afro-beat stuff is new, so it's fun to see an even lighter side to his already-pretty-light side…
the title track is super good and fun, for some reason i love when he says "fuck"
My first impression is that I did not know Jens Lekman could rap.
Listening to Jens always puts me in a great mood. This new stuff put me in the best one yet!
reminds me just like his good old stuff from '07. can't wait to see him make love to the crowd once again this Thurs!
If this song is indicative of his new EP, it leads with a bubbly, funny, less brooding beaet. It feels like he's happier than ever and is having a better than when compared with his older work. It seems like a great way to start the Fall season!
There are some really neat lyrics – I was playing it in the background, and couldn't help noticing some delightfully absurd lines. It's so "aw-shucks" and heartfelt, you can't help but crack a smile.
