COUNTDOWN: 4 Days to Sasquatch — Shabazz Palaces

May 21. 2012 | By Christine Cook

Good hip-hop is hard to come by. Most of it pertains to ass-shaking, pole-grinding, and money-making activities. None of which sound like they’re worth hearing about.
But Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces redefines what it means to be a hip-hop artist. Palaceer Lazaro and Tendai Maraire create music that will pick you up and take you on a journey. Most of the songs on their debut album Black Up sound completely different at the finish than they did at the start.

Their lyrics are philosophical and cryptic, their beats are unpredictable, slightly disorienting, and absolutely fantastic. Their album features another one of our Sasquatch favorites, THEESatisfaction (please, please, please perform together!).

How do we know Shabazz Palaces are going to serve up a performance you will kick yourself for missing? To quote “Are You… Can You… Were You? (Felt)”… It’s a feeling.
