COACHELLA COUNTDOWN: 9 days

I’d say we’re in the home stretch of the countdown, but we’ve got 8 days until the Polo Grounds at Indio open up their gates and 60,000+ folks flood the fields. Sorry if we haven’t been on top of the countdown like we should be – we’ve got lives to lead and stuff. So today we’re recommending 2 bands instead of our usual one, and we’ll try and keep it up til Coachella kicks off.

First up is Portugal.The Man a band led by John Baldwin Gourley – a once resident of Wasilla, Alaska. If that sounds familiar, you must remember vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who could see Russia from Wasilla on a clear day. Check out the free download and video to get a sense what this indie band is all about. The mp3, The Dead Dog is uber upbeat and a poppy progression from their earlier stuff. They’ll be rocking out early on Saturday.

(me, dustin – has been a slacker) Yeasayer, an experimental band out of Brooklyn (there’s something in the water there, honestly) that has just put out ODD BLOOD, a 10 song LP that’s a really good listen.
