YOU GOTTA SEE THIS: “Utopia”/“Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)” by YACHT
Even before Thomas More outlined his famous plan, people wondered what a utopian society would look like. YACHT offers up their own answer in the first half of their trippy double video, “Utopia” and “Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire).” Their utopian world is a surrealist, geometric mountainscape with cacti, camels, women hula-hooping, and sci-fi technology reminiscent of Dr. Who. The dystopian half of the Rene Daalder-directed piece places YACHT’s Jona Becholt and Claire Evans on stationary bikes and treadmills in outer space. At least that makes sense.
