YOU GOTTA SEE THIS: “The Rip Tide” by Beirut

June 29. 2012 | By Sean Morris

The soothing title track from Beirut‘s 2011 album The Rip Tide is a gust of wind that urges a seemingly empty sailing vessel forward. Even when surreal storm clouds descend, there is no sense of peril. “This is the house where I feel alone,” Zach Condon croons over dejected piano chords and a windswept horn section. Whether the illusion of solitude signifies respite or despair, “The Rip Tide” delivers a much-needed moment of tranquility.
