LIVE REVIEW: Gary Numan + Big Black Delta + Roman Remains @ The Fillmore, SF 4/6/14

April 07. 2014 | By Chris Tuite

People may say that Gary Numan‘s 15 minutes of fame have long since passed since his 1979 smash, “Cars.” Those people have never seen him perform. Numan brought his lengthy Splinter tour to The Fillmore in San Francisco for its final leg. A very modest and appreciative Numan left it all on the stage on Sunday. The immense energy that was packed into this set was mindblowing. Explosive guitar and bass intertwined with wailing keyboard provided huge musical climaxes which was a genius combination with Numan’s Trent Reznor/Billy Joe Armstrong-hybrid stage persona. Don’t let those comparisons fool you though, as the icon has truly found his own vision and voice throughout his long career. Numan blasted through old fan favorites and songs from his newer work during his hour-and-a-half set. Gary surely must be tired after putting so much into each show all tour but he sure fooled everyone at The Fillmore if that was the case. It’s obvious why he has so many loyal fans that follow him for multiple legs of each tour.

Big Black Delta and Roman Remains provided opening support for the show like they did all tour long and provided worthy openers to one of the most entertaining sets to come through San Francisco all year.
