All those film critics who claimed that Hook would not have a lasting cultural influence were discredited right around the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release date, when both Doomtree and Skrillex used “Bangarang” in their respective releases. In the case of the Minnesota hip-hop outfit, they use Lost Boys ’91 rallying cry as a catchphrase which, at three syllables, is far above average for the genre. The karaoke setup is cute, but it’s no match for the power of the performances of four MCs with the energy of early Wu-Tang Clan and the clarity of early Hieroglyphics.
