TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 6/24/2021 Edition

June 24. 2021 | By Wayne Jessup

Welcome back to another week of Tracks. Kicking off this episode, it’s destination: Amsterdam, as Dutch indie poppers Pip Blom unleash “Keep It Together”, the first salvo from Welcome Break, the follow up to their breakthrough 2019 debut, Boat, due out 10/8 on Heavenly Recordings.

It’s been quite a journey for Laura Stevenson, and a decade on from her debut A Record, she’s back with a self-titled LP on Don Giovanni, out 8/6. First single “State” tips its hand from the off, with an ominous string bed building up to a full blown wonder. “State” is accompanied by an unforgettable video.

Seattle’s La Luz reappear with “In The Country”, their sparkling new single on Hardly Art. It’s their first new material since 2018’s Floating Features, and, like that LP, they continue to expand and deepen their signature sound.

Finishing off in the Bay Area with some vintage sounds, “She Buys Herself Flowers” is the first jangle-tastic single from The Umbrellas. Their self-titled debut LP catches C-86 lightning in a bottle, and will be released 8/6 on, of course, Slumberland Records.
