TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 2/6/20 Edition

February 06. 2020 | By Wayne Jessup

Rosie Tucker is letting no moss grow with her second single since last year’s triumphant Never Not Never Not Never Not. “Brand New Beast” matches the high bar raised by “Ambrosia”. It’s out now on New Professor. U.S. Girls, (Meg Remy), is back with “Overtime”, from new LP Heavy Light, out 3/6 on 4AD. Mark your show calendar for West Coast dates, including 4/20 Independent (SF), 4/21 Ritz (San Jose), and 4/22 Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery (LA)

The pride of Newcastle, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, returns with “Reducer”, the first single from new LP Viscerals, out 4/3 on Rocket Recordings. If you need to get up to speed with Pigs…, early editions in all formats will contain a bonus cd, Offcuts, featuring six songs from previous LP’s.

One of our favorite recent discoveries comes straight out of Louisville. Pocari Sweater have a ragged but right sound going on with “Technicolor”, and the rest of the Close Encounters LP measures up as well. The mighty Shellshag brings it home this week with “Trigger”, their new single out on Starcleaner Records, from the split EP w SF’s Fleshies via Dead Broke Rekerds. Conveniently, there will be release shows on both coasts: 2/15 Knockout (SF) and 2/28 Saint Vitus (NYC).
