TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 1/7/2021 Edition

January 07. 2021 | By Wayne Jessup

Welcome to the first Tracks of the new year, kicking off with “Tea Lights Exploding” from New Zealand outfit Guardian Singles. Their 2020 self-titled debut will get a bigger profile with its upcoming reissue on Trouble In Mind.

Another act of shining a light on an overlooked talent comes courtesy of Damnably, giving a new life to the talents of Yucca keyboardist Yuki Kawana. “Sailing” is from the Memorial single, the follow-up to her solo debut Secret Plans Of A Special Artisan, which, along with the Yucca catalogue, have also been reissued.

Continuing the evolution of a singular talent, “Willow” is the latest single from Tash Sultana. Her forthcoming LP Terra Firma is out 2/19/21 on Lonely Lands Records in Australia, and Mom + Pop in the US.

On the subject of singular talents, the Nest mourns the passing of, and sends out a mighty Rest In Power to the incomparable MF DOOM with “All Caps”, from Madvillainy, the Madlib collaboration that stands as his finest hour.
