HEAR THIS: The Salvadors

March 13. 2013 | By Nick Schneider

the salvadors

Heavy on guitar reverb and vocals so chill they make Julian Casablancas sound exuberant, The Salvadors sound like a Vampire Weekend short on preppy slickness and big on surfer cool — a band that would rather spend their time catching waves than practice enunciating their lyrics. Full of sloppy white-boy afropop rhythms (“Merrily”), epic, classic rock-sized chord changes (“Straight and Narrow”), and a reservoir of resentment aimed at Los Angeles (“Wilson”), their debut LP Holy Drunken Fisherman (awesome title) is the perfect album to conjure images of a bright summer day, the tide rolling in, and seagulls chirping overhead. Someone call Surfer Blood and let them know we’ve just found their next tour-mates!
